Originals 'Sweet Dee' (2014) 8"x10.5"The wedding ring belies Kaitlin Olson being in character, but fans of the show "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" will recognize everything else about this image as "very Sweet Dee".'Ash' (2014) 6"x11"A diminutive character in the movie "Fantastic Mr. Fox", Ash finds a use for his small stature by declaring he can help out "because I'm LITTLE". With that being my last name, I had extra fun capturing the delivery of this line.'Zomadi' (2014) 12"x10"My sister asked me about creating a logo for her business, which combines gypsy and Day of the Dead themes. I referred her to a graphic designer, but was still inspired to create a life-based graphite version with the modeling and photography help of some friends.'Rehab' (2014) 12.75"x7.5"I initially started drawing in order to pass 6 weeks on crutches after hip surgery. My friend Lindsay at the print shop was once on crutches for 6 months, and this image of her captures the patience and exhaustion that comes with surgery rehab.'Toto' (2015) 8"x12"I have only attended 2 sweat-lodge ceremonies in my life, but one of the most interesting characters I have ever met was at both of them. Here's to you, Toto.'Jocelyn' (2015) 8"x12"Talent means little without hard work and persistence. My hometown produced a great role model in this respect, so it was an honour to get to draw this photo that Jocelyn Alice picked out for me.'Bloodlines' (2015) 15"x12"Musical legend Bob Dylan is an influence on artist/musician Jason Cruz, who in turn has inspired rock photographer Brandon Mizar. I'm indebted to Brandon for this shot, and am happy to be part of these creative bloodlines.'Rum Ham' (2016) 8"x11"I can't help but laugh at the show "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", and Danny Devito's character Frank Reynolds is no small reason why.'Non Sum' (2016) 12.75"x10"Left and right. Masculine and feminine. Is our identity just a sum of our parts? Is our sense of self a mere illusion? Having fellow artist and former competive wrestler Caitlin Bodewitz pose for this was perfect for capturing these inner battles.'Chicago Windage' (2016) 8"x10"The podcast of retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink is very inspiring, and while he encourages us to "know the darkness", co-host Echo Charles always adds levity. The layers in this image are myriad, but would be recognized by their listeners (aka "the troopers").'Extension' (2017) 13"x10"For years I wanted to try this shot, and local musician Lisa Jacobs made for the perfect model. She has played this same bass since childhood, and when you see her perform it's clear how a musician's instrument is truly an extension of themselves.'Pennies Wise' (2017) 11"x8"Californian punk rock band Pennywise is named after the clown from Stephen King's "It". It's a story - and a band - all about sticking together with your friends to face and defeat your biggest fears.'Uncanny' (2017) 10"x8"Philospher and neuroscientist Sam Harris has shared his concerns about runaway Artifical Intelligence, and was a good sport giving me permission to depict this dystopian image hinting at a possible worst case scenario.'Plus' (2017) 11"x9"This drawing was done entirely with its inverted values in mind. I was imagining my friend Caitlin's tattoos appearing to glow, and wanted to trick the eye by having the mohawk appear as blonde hair. Results can be seen on 'Minus'...'Minus' (2017) 11"x9"The only non-graphite image here, this is the inverted print of the accompanying original graphite drawing 'Plus', together forming "+/-" ("Plus/Minus")'Avril' (2017) 14"x11"I had received criticism for doing pop art, and I also wanted to try a faux mat effect to play on my "Drawings Without Borders" pun. So I chose one of the biggest pop stars I could think of to flip off not only the critics, but also the imaginary border in which she was hypothetically framed.'Rose' (2017) 11"x8"When I first saw Rose Namajunas fight, her reptilian stare led me to predict her unlikely belt victory. I decided on cat eyes here, but her tenacity and humilty were what led me to drawing this incredible athlete.'3D Lee' (2018) 11"x14"This was truly what I first envisioned as an effect when the play on words "drawings without borders" came to mind, and I was honoured to receive permission from legendary photographer Stanley Bielecki's estate to use this shot.'Won One' (2018) 14"x11"A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, I made a promise to the universe to draw one of their players once they made it to the Super Bowl in 2018. A week later, they became champs for the first time, hence the custom logo on the chest.'Una Hermosa Mujer Ha Venido' (2018) 11"x9"Dubbed the "Marilyn Monroe of Mexico", Maria Felix once turned down King Farouk of Egypt's offer of Nefertiti's crown in exchange for "a night of passion". The Egyptian queen's name translates to "A beautiful woman has come", and I thought Maria would have appreciated the tattoo.'Corral' (2018) 11"x9"With wild horses depicted on a tamed mare's face, I thought it apt to corral the image of her stampeding kin within the edges of the bridle.'Eden' (2019) 14"x11""Eden, dark, asleep. The creator waits patiently, For us to awake." With axes being a symbol of creation and my cousin having helped polish one to mirror-like reflectivity, I couldn't help but have this religious motif in mind.
